The original compiler of these annals was Cathal (Charles) Maguire who died in 1498; thence they were continued to 1537 or 1541 by Roderick Cassidy, archdeacon of Clogher, who died in the latter year, and who, according to O'Conor (vol. i., Prolegomena, part ii, p. clxx.,) "hujus codicis partem postremam manu propria exaravit." See O'Donovan's Annals of the Four Masters, (in quarto. Dubl. 1848) vol. ii. pp. 1240–1241. The portion of the Annals which commences at the year 1156, is, however, assigned by O'Conor to Augustin Magraidin who died in the year 1405: (Scriptt. vol. iv. p. 398, note.)

Short entries relating to the years 1549, 1551, 1584 and 1588 are added on the two last pages; together with a memorandum dated 1579 of additions by members of the family of O'Luinin.

The cover bears a book-plate nearly the full size of the volume, with the words "Leonardi Academia, Vi. Ci." in the centre, surrounded with a broad border of interlaced ornament.

A fac-simile of two of the last entries in the volume is given in Astle's Origin and progress of writing , plate xxii, nos. 16, 17, with description at p. 136.
