The volume probably contains the collections of Peter Edgcombe, or Edgcumbe, M. P. for Cornwall in the time of Q. Elizabeth. Many of the letters are addressed to him in conjunction with others, as a justice of the peace and deputy-lieutenant, and on a fly-leaf at the beginning, under the date of 1569, are the names of himself and his wife, five sons (including one named John, omitted in the printed accounts of the family) and four daughters.

The volume also contains other papers that have been added at the end.
