Schrödinger, Erwin, 1985-1986

Correspondence. Includes a typescript of the article in Grazer Tagespost (Schrödinger was then at the University of Graz) 30 Mar [1938] under the heading 'Bekenntnis zum Führer. Ein herverregender Wissenschaftler meldet sich zum Dienst für Volk and Heimat', in which Schrödinger makes his Erklärung of loyalty. No year given, but written at the Anschluss 1938. A translation is appended, provided by Dr Olive Sayce, Feb 1995.

Shubin, Semyon, 1989-1990

Correspondence and papers Shubin, a Russian physicist, had died of cold in a Soviet labour camp. The correspondence is with S. Vonsovsky who had adopted and brought up Shubin's family after his arrest, and was organizing a memorial volume of his papers, with tributes by colleagues. Among Shubin's papers had been a letter written to Peierls on the Hall effect in ferromagnetism, Mar 1937 but not posted before his arrest. Peierls decided to send a retrospective reply to this letter…
