A printed copy of the second edition of Richard Gough's British Topography (1780)
A printed copy of the second edition of Richard Gough's British Topography (1780), prepared for a third edition by many corrections in Gough's hand, and with a very large number of additional papers, printed and manuscript (prospectuses, letters, etc.) bound in four volumes. The first 448 pages of the projected edition were in type (a set of proofs is in the Bodleian, ending in Cheshire) when the great fire took place at the publisher John Nichols' warehouse on Feb. 8, 1808, and destroyed the impression. The additional manuscript matter does not admit of summary treatment, though considerable in extent.
