'Some original MSS. (prepared many of them for the Press, & happily preserved) wrote by the Learned Sr Henry Spelman, The Revd Mr Jeremy Stephens ... Mr Ephraim Udall & others, in defense of the English Monarchy, Hierarchy, Universitys, Spiritual Courts, Clergy and Tythes.' This is an extract from an account and list of the MSS. 'in number 21 under 16 Marble Covers,' by Dr. Philip Stubbs archdn. of St. Albans, who presented them in 1723, though they did not arrive (or at least were not bound) till 1730.

Sir Henry Spelman (1563/4–1641) was a historian and antiquary.
Jeremiah [Jeremy] Stephens (1591–1665) was a scholar and Church of England clergyman.
Ephraim Udall (bap. 1587, d. 1647) was a Church of England clergyman and religious controversialist.
