Biographical / Historical

Philip Bliss (1787–1857) was an antiquary and book collector.

Anthony Wood (1632–1695) was an antiquary.

Custodial History

The Delegates of the Clarendon Press had received the collection in Jan. 1887 from the executors of Dr. John Griffiths.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

The following six MSS. relating to Bliss's edition of Wood's Athenæ Oxonienses (after its issue) were presented by the Delegates of the Clarendon Press on Jan. 24 and March 22, 1887, see letters from Mr. C. E. Doble in MS. Top. Oxon d. 12.
