Immediate Source of Acquisition

On May 11, 1915, the executors of Mr. Thomas Watson Jackson, fellow of Worcester college and for twenty years (1894-1914) Curator of the Bodleian Library, who died Nov. 7, 1914, presented to the Library a number of note-books by Mr. Jackson relating to pictures at Oxford and elsewhere (MSS. Eng. misc. d. 82-3, MS. Top. Oxon. e. 151-153) and to the history of Worcester college (MSS. Top. Oxon. d. 145-152, MS. Top. Oxon. e. 157). The gift included, in addition to the volumes described below, a catalogue and a subject-index of Douce prints (mounted series), an alphabetical subject-index to Thomas Dodd's catalogue of Douce prints, a list of pictures which have at any time belonged to the Bodleian Library or the Ashmolean Museum, and several note-books relating to pictures in the Bodleian Picture-gallery and to their restoration in 1903-4. MSS. Top. Oxon. d. 148-149 were transferred to the Library by Mr. C. F. Bell on Aug. 22. A series of vouchers, dated 1911, showing purchases made for the Hope collection of Engraved Portraits, of which Mr. Jackson was Keeper, have been inserted in no. 31419 as fols. 31-56.
