Biographical / Historical

Elizabeth Elstob, 1683-1756, was an English Anglo-Saxon scholar. William Elstob, c. 1674-1715, was an English Anglo-Saxon scholar and Church of England clergyman.

Custodial History

Printed label '91' on spine; inscribed 'B' inside upper cover; owned with two volumes of the same collections by Fleetwood Parkhurst (sale of his pictures, books, etc., Moore & Weaver, 19 May 1845, lot 91); Phillipps MS. 11787 (three vols.); Sotheby's, 10 June 1896, lot 474 (two vols.).

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Bought, Sotheby's, 14 Feb. 1927 (W. A. Lindsay sale), lot 264 (two vols.; the second not found).
