A subject-index to theological works in the Bodleian Library

 Single Item
MS. e Mus. 38

  • How to
    request
A subject-index to theological works in the Bodleian Library, in Latin: under each subject is given a list of authorities, with the page and (usually) the Bodleian shelf-mark. Additional entries, giving library accessions of about 1635-41, occur in a later hand.

There can be little doubt that this is the work of Bodley's first librarian, dr. Thomas James (although not in his autograph), and that it is to be identified with the 'Lexicon theologicum, in quo quid ab aliquo auctore scriptum sit in genere theologico digestum continebitur ordine alphabetico, adscriptis paginarum numeris et adnotatis editionibus', announced by him in 1604 for publication (see his Catalogus librorum Bibliothecae publicae, 1605, p. 180) as a supplement to his Catalogus Expositorum S. Scripturae.
