Biographical / Historical

Sir Symon Archer (1581-1662) was an English antiquary and politician who sat in the House of Commons in 1640. Sir William Dugdale (1605-1686) was an English antiquary and herald.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Bought at the sale of [Mark] Archer of Farnacres Hall's books, Anderson & Garland (Newcastle-upon-Tyne), 22 April 1931 (lot 223?). Fols. 175b-176a (Sotheby's, 27 April 1931, lot 491) were bought separately, Bernard Halliday, cat. 149 (1932), 506; fols. 232b-c, bought from John Wilson, 1976.
