Biographical / Historical
Oxfam, with Channel 4 and several other organizations, created the On the Line project in 1999-2001. It focused on connections between people living in countries along the Greenwich Meridian, as part of the Millennium celebrations.
The Oxfam (India) Trust, a U.K. charity, was set up in 1978 to take responsibility for funds which Oxfam remitted to India for development and humanitarian work. The Oxfam (India) Society was also set up in 1978, for the purpose of receiving income for Oxfam's work in India, mainly the repayment of loans made by Oxfam (India) Trust for micro-credit, reimbursement of tax paid on expatriate salaries by the Trust, and donations from the public in India. In the late 1990s, the Oxfam (India) Society began to operate under the name Oxfam India.
