Hodgkin was invited to a conference of Yugoslav and Italian crystallographers held at Dubrovnik, where she gave a lecture. She travelled to Yugoslavia with Thomas Hodgkin and their daughter, Elizabeth, visiting southern Yugoslavia after the meeting.
