Mainly with an Oriental or Arabic setting. Some of the drafts and fragments are continuations of 'The long story' (see Parreaux, op. cit., pp. 99-136). They include:
- (fols. 3-10, 12-19) a rough draft, and fair copy with alterations, of 'Yao', discussed by Parreaux, p. 93, n. 310
- (fols. 20-3) a draft entitled (fol. 1) 'Gabel al Comar', containing notes on 'Bostan afruz' and a fragment beg. 'Gemal al Camar the mountains of the moon' (or, 'I thought I was arrived in the happy Isles' - Parreaux, p. 109)
- (fols. 24-6) fragments relating to Nouronihar
- (fols. 27-8) a wrapper, watermarked 1842, formerly containing fols. 30-68
(fols. 30-68 passim) are drafts and fragments relating to Nouronihar, Pourrous and Krisna, c.1779, including:
- (fols. 30-5) a draft beg. 'I was once familiar with happiness'
- (fols. 35v-7, 37v-40) two drafts beg. 'The industry of man joined to a strength'
- (fols. 53-7) a draft entitled 'For the Keladet, where N. remains six months'
(fols. 42v-3) drafts of passages relating to life at Fonthill, 23 Dec. 1779, with a few reading notes
