Biographical / Historical
George S. Kemp (1857-1933) was Marconi's first, closest and most dedicated assistant, who kept an invaluable diary of their working relationship. Before joining Marconi's new company, Kemp served in the Royal Navy as an electrical and torpedo instructor, after which he was employed by the Post Office in the laboratory of its Engineer-in-Chief, William Preece. Kemp was assigned to provide technical support for Marconi's early demonstrations and this led to his appointment as Marconi's 'Chief Assistant'.
