This series is based on a series of 'historical' files created by the company. The various subseries encompass personal papers of Marconi and his assistant, George Kemp; the early development of wireless telegraphy; the formation and early operation of Marconi's Wireless Telegraph Company; the development of international wireless policy and its influence on world communications; and the further applications of radio communication in significant areas. Additional items of direct relevance to the subjects and time period covered, but not included in the original 'historical' series, have been incorporated into appropriate subseries. Conversely, a few sections (notably those covering research and development, patents and litigation) formerly in the 'historical' series but falling more appropriately into major subseries within the main body of the administrative records of the company (to be found in the series following this), have been incorporated into these. The 'historical' files also contained articles and correspondence concerning the history of the topics in question, and these have been included in the subseries of papers on the history of the company (see MSS. Marconi 1752-1831).
