Mainly gene therapy experiments; also proposed homologous gene targetting experiments (scheme p. 147):
- Experiment 44: Rat foetal primary hepatocytes infected with human factor IX retrovirus synthesize human factor IX and is barium precipitable (experiments 46, 54).
- Experiment 62: Successful PCR, at last, after using precautions to prevent cross-contamination.
- Experiment 63: Start of collaboration with Fiona Watt (ICRF London) infecting human keratinocytes with FIX retrovirus. She provided the cultured human keratinocytes. She was expert in growing them from donated human skin. Brownlee's laboratory provided the FIX retrovirus and the animal facilities.
