Heptonstall backlit, Yorkshire by Fay Godwin, 1971
Inscribed on the reverse: "Heptonstall backlit / from Elmet / Calder Valley series".
Also stamped on the reverse with Fay Godwin's name and address.
This print was reproduced in Paul Hill's Approaching Photography (Focal Press, 1982) accompanied by the caption: "There is a great attraction to this popular photograph of Heptonstall, Yorkshire by Fay Godwin, becasue it is 'beautiful' by our cultural standards. There may be a feeling of the unknown and myseterious, especially in the religious context (note the position of the church), but there is a warm feeling of hrmony and timelessness in the picture too. It is not so much about spiritual illumination, as about idyllic escapism." (p.83)
