Note: Richard Beard is unlikely to have taken these portraits personally. He was the patent holder to the Dageurreotype in England and ran a portrait studio in a glasshouse on the roof of the Polytechnic Institute in London. He also licensed photographers to use the process, on the condition that his mark appeared on every Dageurreotype.
