Biographical / Historical
The book 'Geschichte der Familien Lehmann-Lehfeldt herausgegeben von ihren Nachkommen' (History of the Lehmann/Lehfeldt Families published by their Descendants) was written and privately printed in 1906. In this family chronicle or Familienchronik, the authors Franziska Lehmann and Agatha Birnbaum née Lehmann described how the Lehmann and Lehfeldt families of Jewish merchants and shopkeepers at the beginning of the 19th century became families of Christian lawyers, doctors, academics and landowners by its end. In the mid-1980s Thomas Braun, being a descendent of the Lehmann-Lehfeldts, produced an illustrated version of the family chronicle, adding to the original text a contents list, photographs, family trees and an index of persons. He then photocopied the pages and bound the book with a DIY heated glue system, producing some 12 copies of this version which he gave to family members. At the end of his life he was collecting material for a revised and extended version of the 'Familienchronik'.
