Thirty-eight news-letters (chiefly in French) written from Berne to Bishop Compton by J. C. Werndly, chaplain and secretary to Mr. A. Stanyan the English envoy, and — Clarion, a French refugee minister, (employed by Werndly as an amanuensis,) giving particulars of public affairs in Switzerland, France, etc., and of the war in Spain, Flanders, and Italy, together with an account of proposals made by Werndly to the Swiss pastors for a union of the English and Helvetic Churches, but apparently discouraged by the Bishop, 8 Apr 1706–11 Feb 1708

Some of Werndly's letters have a seal of arms; three trees; crest, a demi-savage, carrying a tree on his shoulder.
