Sir Griffith Ap-Rice was a knight of Worcestershire, and one of the garrison of Calais, in the time of Hen. VIII. He appears from this poem to have been killed by a lance-wound in the side. He was one of the knights present at the Field of the Cloth of Gold; see Jerdan's Rutland Papers, p. 33, and Turpin's Chron. of Calais, p. 21. See also Collins' Peerage, vii. 506.
