Most of the indexes are in a different hand. These are mainly transcripts of copies of visitations in the Harleian collection, collated in some cases with other MSS. The additions are entered in red ink. There are also a few dated additions by 'H.S.' on scraps of paper originally loose in the volumes, of which the earliest is apparently that of 14 Mar. 1725/6 (MS. Clar. dep. c. 419, p. 48b) and the latest January 1745/6 (MS. Clar. dep. c. 423, p. 219). For other collection partly by 'H.S.', see MSS. Clar. dep. c. 415-17.
