On the first leaf are the following lines: "Unhappie is the birth was borne / To dure the dulefull dayes as I, / That am with paines so pyned and worne, / And thankles yet; Oh myserye! / But syns yts so, and chused so, faine / Take fruteles meed for all thy payne. / Q[uoth] Aplegarth."
