The baptisms extend from 1620 to 1686, marriages from 1682 to 1690, and deaths from 1617 to 1686.

An account of the register is prefixed by Wood, from which it appears that it was only commenced in the year 1662 at his suggestion, the entries previous to that year being extracts from his own collections. He has also prefixed an account of a dispute with the parishioners of St. Peter's in the East respecting their claim to enter Alban Hall and make a cross within the quadrangle when beating the parish bounds; and also an account of the beating the bounds of St. John's parish in 1682, which is printed in Peshall's Antient and present state of the city of Oxford, in quarto. Lond. 1773, pp. 134–135.

At the end of the volume have been inserted by Mr. Gutch, the translator and editor of Wood's History of Oxford, the printed leaves from his book in which are entered many of the burials recorded in this register.
