On a fly-leaf at the beginning are the following notes in bishop Chandler's handwriting: "This is the true old Bolden book, or state of the bp. of Durham, his mannors and rents, under bp. Hugh Pudsey, A.D. 1183, taken from a register of the dean and chapter, 1737. There is another book in the bp.'s auditor's office called also Bolden Book, as being also a state of the bishoprick as it stood improved under bp. Thom. Hatfeild. It is the Bolden book with additions, and the alterations in that estate since bp. Pudsey's time. It belongs to my private library. I paid for the copy from Dr. Hunter."
