Summer School on 'Advances in programming and non-numerical analysis', Oxford, 1963-1965
Correspondence between Strachey, Gill and Fox, regarding the organisation and the programme of the School (preliminary work began in 1961). Includes:
- Copies of letters from Fox to lecturers.
- Draft pamphlet with comments by Gill.
- List of participants. Programme.
- Correspondence regarding publication.
The Summer School was sponsored by the Oxford University Computing Laboratory in association with the Delegacy for Extra-Mural Studies and was organised by Strachey, L. Fox and S. Gill. The lectures given at the Summer School were published by Pergamon Press in 1966. Strachey and D. Barron gave 8 lectures on 'Programming'; see MS. Eng. misc. b. 248/A.1 for Barron's 'Reminiscence', written after Strachey's death and published in The Computer Bulletin, which describes the Summer School and the writing up of the lectures.
