Numbers 142-169, written at Baro, and later at Idah where Mathews was posted in April 1921. In number 147 he described his methods of mapping, in connection with the Bida-Agaie boundary. In number 149 he wrote of a meeting at Baro of the Phelps-Stokes Committee (African Educational Commission, U.S.A.) which included Mr. Aggrey (see also MSS. Brit. Emp. 232 and 283). Attached to number 154 is the draft of a letter to the Editor of the Methodist Times about "the policy of restricting missionary work" in Northern Nigeria. Number 168 refers to the visit to Idah of J.H.J. Farquar, Senior Canservator of Forests. Other officers mentioned in this and later files are: J.P. Bulger, C.M. Dunn, Captain G.G. Fearsey, C.N. Monsell, T.C. Newton and Major K. Officer. Number 169 is a copy of a Memorandum from the Resident, Nassarawa Province, about Mathews and Captain W.I. Walton, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Jemaa, with a letter from D.C. Cameron to Winston Churchill and the latter's reply.
