Letters, unfoliated, from Mathews in Nigeria to his parents in England. In the first six files, the letters were arranged by Mathews's father for copying, several being fastened together and these collections numbered 1-74, with certain passages marked for omission from the copy. The letters in the remaining eight files have been numbered 75-233 by the archivist. There are references throughout the letters to various missions operating in Nigeria, including the Church Missionary Society, the Dutch Reformed Church Mission, the R.C. Mission, and the Sudan Interior Mission; also to tin mining companies, including the Abu Tin Company, Anglo-Continental Mines, Keffi Tin Company, Naraguta Tin Mines, and the Nigerian Tin Corporation, and to J.B.S. Henderson, Inspector of Mines at Jos. Various enclosures are noted below.
