The North Weston estate was sold by Francis Clerke in 1753, and acquired in 1755 by Charles Spencer, 3rd Duke of Marlborough, who settled it on Lord Charles Spencer. It was bought by Montagu Bertie, 5th Earl of Abingdon in 1836 and sold by Sir Francis Bertie in 1913.
