Includes letter from David Green to his mother after his wedding, July 1938, letters from Joyce to David, circa 1946-1947, and press cutting relating to the Duke and Duchess of Marlborough, 1939.
The diary principally deals with the following subjects:
- The flora and fauna in and around Blenheim Park and Church Hanborough where the Greens lived in Church Cottage.
- Many references to his wife Joyce and their son, Roger (born 1940).
- Green's first meeting with the Duke of Marlborough and first impressions of him and his family, particularly Lord Blandford, Lady Rosemary and Lord Charles (who was born in 1940).
- Invitation to take tea with Mr and Mrs Churchill in 1947.
- Details about Country Life’s commissioning of Green’s definitive book on Blenheim Palace (published in 1951).
- The possibility of John Piper illustrating Green’s book (which did not happen).
- References to Woodstock and to Blenheim characters such as Dr Bevan, Mr Sacre, Fred Hollis and Johnny Horne.
