The first leaf is lost, and the text beg. 'neuer ille ne he dude neuer ille.' One complete section of twelve leaves is also wanting after fol. 47. Mandeville's real name was probably Jean de Bourgogne (de Burgundia or de Barba): this is a shortened form of the common English translation of the travels [i.e. of the first translation, from an imperfect French MS. E.W.B.N.].
