(fols 1-25) - folder containing notes, signed S.J.M., and 36 photographs to illustrate some of the activities of the Agricultural Department in Kitui District, Southern Province. These fall into three main categories: normal extension work on arable holdings; installation of water supplies; and the improvement of grazing areas.

(fols 1-23) - folder containing photographs showing the state of the land in 1950, reclamation in progress, and results achieved in 1953. Subjects of photographs include: Makavete, Makueni Settlement and Chai Irrigation Scheme. A diagram (fol 2) demonstrates various aspects of 'Better Farming' leading to 'Prosperity'. Notes on Machakos District (fols 19-22) give details of area population, refer to the visit of Mr Creech Jones in 1946, and describe the progress of the scheme up to 1958.
