Rudolph was described by Peierls (Bird of Passage, p. 12) as 'my closest friend' at the Gymnasium in Oberschöneweide which Peierls attended 1916-1925. He later settled in Nuremberg and re-established regular postal contact in the 1970s with Peierls who was able to visit him on several occasions in the course of conferences.
