The journal entries begin in 1973 and document UK travel and general activities, with Nicholson's thoughts, opinions, and records of dreams. Visits covered include the following: Orkney and Shetland, Jul 1973; South-west England and East Anglia, Sep 1993. There are also notes following a visit to Cyril Hurcomb in hospital, 1975. A few intercalated papers, one dated 1956, are included.

This is a detailed journal written in a notepad inserted into an offical conference document wallet labelled 'Moscow-Ashikabad [sic] 1978'. It covers the 14th International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources General Assembly and Technical Meeting at Ashkhabad, USSR (see also MSS. 15041/483-485). Entries are paginated in a single sequence but are divided into two parts in the journal.
