'Sinfonie' for strings, lute and organ
Complete parts for 14 Italian Sinfonie for violin, viola, violoncello, trumpet (no. 14 only), lute and cembalo, in 2-7 parts, nearly all with organ accompaniment. 2 parts only of 4 more sinfonie are included. All but nos. 12-14 are unascribed. The only composers named are Giuseppe Torelli (nos. 12-13) and Alessandro Melani (no. 14). Copied in Italy; items 1-10 and 14 by the same hand as MSS. Mus. Sch. d. 228, nos. 1-2 and e. 450, no. 1.

Custodial History
This item is part of the Music School collection of printed and manuscript music, which was originally bequeathed to the University of Oxford by William Heather (c 1563-1627), and gradually added to until the end of the 18th century.
Immediate Source of Acquisition
The collection was transferred to the Bodleian in 1885.
Physical Facet
iii + 150 leaves. Instrumental parts originally kept loose (sewn as quires). The sets numbered 1-10, 14-15, were copied by one hand on the same upright quarto paper. Two other hands wrote nos. 11 and 12-13 on different papers, same format. Bound c 1885 (for details see description of MS. Mus. Sch. c. 44).
