Anonymous diary of young woman travelling in Germany
Notebook containing the diary of a young woman's travels in Germany with her Aunt Gertrude from May to September 1895.
In the almost daily entries she describes their journey by boat along the Rhine and by train, with a visit to Düsseldorf, before they base themselves in Freiburg. Her time is occupied with German and French conversation, music lessons, dances, concerts and a short stay in Altglasshütten undertaking walks in the area. She is particularly interested in the art and architecture of churches and cathedrals, visiting many and frequently attending Roman Catholic services although she is not a Catholic. She gives detailed descriptions of a confirmation service and the Corpus Christi service.
