Manuscript notebook offering advice to a younger brother
A manuscript notebook in which a sister offers advice to her younger brother, James [Colwell?], as he approaches the age of twenty one. Her reasons for writing are that he may be sent abroad and she may not see him for many years and because he has no father or mother to give their advice. She entreats him to serve God, follow God's law and adhere to religion throughout life and warns him against waiting to repent on his death bed.
Among the blank leaves in the notebook are three unfinished sketches, one of a man's head and two of botanical specimens.

Biographical / Historical
