  4. Family papers including letters from Queen Alexandra, diaries belonging the 5th Earl Winterton and a guest book for Shillinglee Park which includes signatures of notable people.

Abstract

Diaries, correspondence and papers of Edward Turnour, 6th Earl Winterton, 1883-1962, politician and author.

Biographical / Historical

Edward Turnour, 6th Earl Winterton, was a Conservative politician and author. He was MP for Horsham from 1904 until 1952, when he took his seat in the House of Lords as Baron Turnour. He served in the First World War with the Sussex Yeomanry and the Imperial Camel Corps. He published three books, Pre-war (1932), Orders of the Day (1953) and Fifty Tumultuous Years (1955).
