Services are on pp. 1-86, breaking off unfinished. Full anthems, pp. 112-126. Verse anthems, pp. 140-142, unfinished. At the end, pp. 170-172, were added 'Psalm Tunes by Mr. Popely 1708' in score. Spaces were filled by John Nutter, 1724 (see p. 95) with anthems of north-country provenance, in score. Some of his headings and attributions have been defaced.

Custodial History

Owned by J.S. Bumpus (name on p. v; shelfmark C within red diamond inside front cover), who continued index of services and wrote index of anthems on pp. i and iii. Said to have been 'from the Rev. G. Heathcote's library'.

Physical Facet

vi + 174 pages, with pages 1-172 numbered by first copyist. 11 gatherings, 1(4), 2(8) and so on alternately in fours and eights to 9(4); 10(6) (6 missing); 11(6) (5 missing); plus modern end papers. Watermark resembles Heawood 2010, except pp. 75-78, where the watermark resembles Heawood 3144, with countermark DG or DC. Ruled throughout with 12 staves to a page, red marginal rulings. Bound before copying, in calf with blind tooling. Rebacked, 19th cent., and inscribed 'Services & Anthems' in gold letters on black calf label. Original index inside front cover, partly obscured by modern repairs.
