Copies of Latin academical exercises, letters and poems, composed or current in Oxford about 1635-55, of which there is a list on (fols. 137-8) and a much fuller catalogue in manuscript in the Library; a few are in English.

Among them are:

  1. (fols. 1, 18, 25v, 74v, etc.) Exercises and letters hy 'G. S.' or 'George Stradling' (of Jesus coll., Oxford, afterwards dean of Chichester, d. 1688: who seems to have collected and written most of the volume), 1641-1643, partly about a fellowship at All Souls in 1642;
  2. (fols. 2v, 9v, 11, etc.) Pieces by 'J. E.,' or 'Jonathan Edwards' (principal of Jesus college), 1635-1641;
  3. (fols. 2v, 18v, 24v, etc.) Exercises by 'T. T.' of Ch. Ch.;
  4. (fols. 28, 71, 132) Letters and exercises by 'H. V.' or 'Henry Vaughan,' fellow of Jesus college, 1641-1649?;
  5. (fol. 40v) Oration on Edmund Stradling, who died at Oxford Oct. 11, 1643;
  6. (fols. 98v, 103v, 107v, etc.) English poems, 1631-1641;
  7. (fol. 124v) , Lachrymae academicae fatum Caroli suumque deplorantes,' an interesting Latin poem on Oxford in 1646, beg. 'Deuictas aquilas.'

136 leaves foliated to '142'. The original text had at least 155 leaves, but a later pagination counts only 140, and even of these (fols. 20, 90-1, 101-2, 106) are missing.
