Biographical / Historical

Lancelot Andrewes (1555-1626) was Bishop of Winchester.

Custodial History

Given by Andrewes to William Laud, [1626] (17th-cent. copy, inside upper cover, of a nearly illegible inscription on the cover, which includes the signature of Laud as Bishop of Bath and Wells);

Inscribed 'J. Mandevile', 18th cent., on p. 188;

Part of lot 592 on the fifth day (Friday, - Jan.) of an unidentified sale by W. Bristow (fl. 1760s) at Moreing's auction room, Maiden Lane, Covent Garden (annotated cutting pasted inside lower cover).

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Owned by R. G. Livingstone, and bequeathed by his daughter Isobel Henrietta, 1969.
