Abstract
William Boyce: 'Tromba II' part for the 'Twelve Overtures' (London, 1770), in the hand of Gerald Finzi, [1920s-1940s].
Biographical / Historical
William Boyce (1711-1779) was a composer, organist and editor. See Grove Music Online for further details.
Gerald Finzi (1901-1956) was a composer, organist and editor. See Grove Music Online for further details.
No original printed copy of this part has survived. Finzi reconstructed the 2nd trumpet part from the manuscripts of Boyce's court odes (from which the 'Twelve Overtures' were taken) in the Bodleian Music School collection, and presumably gave it to Alfred Moffat who owned a set of the printed parts (partly original, partly photostat). A similar manuscript copy is with Finzi's own printed copy of the Twelve Overtures, now in St Andrews University Library.
