Carl Maria von Weber: 'Der Freyschütz. Romantische Oper in drey Act [sic]'
'Der Freischütz', opera in 3 acts (op. 77, J. 277) by Carl Maria von Weber; composed 1817–1821. Libretto by Friedrich Kind. Full score in the hand of a German copyist without most of the spoken dialogue, [c 1824?]. An English hand has added in red ink an English translation by George Soane, which together with the altered names of certain characters (Agathe = Linda, Änchen = Rose, Max = Adolph, Cuno = Bernhard) is that of the Drury Lane production first performed on 10 Nov 1824, which became the most popular English version. Various cuts (sometimes reinstated) and other markings indicate its use in performances in the first half of the 19th century.
