Scores, vi + 306 pages. Most of the pieces are for two treble voices. Among them were included some secular Italian pieces, and one motet each by Christopher Gibbons and Matthew Locke. Leaves from earlier books in the hands of Edward Lowe and others were incorporated with Goodson's own copies. Indexed by Philip Hayes inside front cover. Writers' names are given in the following list within square brackets.

Custodial History

This item is part of the Music School collection of printed and manuscript music, which was originally bequeathed to the University of Oxford by William Heather (c 1563-1627), and gradually added to until the end of the 18th century.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

The collection was transferred to the Bodleian in 1885.

Physical Facet

Bound for Richard Goodson in calf with blind tooling. Six watermarks, the paper having probably been used in the following order: 1, Fleur de Lys, HG, used by Lowe (pp. 46-78); 2, Fleur de Lys, IHS, used by Lowe and Goodson jointly, and for the older book (pp. 79-86, 127-68, 25-44 and 95-118); 3, Fleur de Lys, DS, used by Goodson (pp. 1-24,87-94, 119-126,169-285 except 209-216); 4, Fleur de Lys, different IHS (pp. 209-216); 5, Fleur de Lys, P (pp. 286-299); 6, Fleur de Lys, GP (pp. 300-305). A leaf is lost after p. 216. All ruled with 10 5-lined staves, with red marginal ruling.
