Parts of the Bible in two Spanish versions

  • How to

Parts of the Bible in two Spanish versions, in parallel columns:

  1. (1) in the old version printed first at Ferrara, MS. Bodl. 366 contains the Pentateuch, Joshua, Judges, i and ii Sam., and i Kings as far as xv. 18: MS. Bodl. 367 contains i and ii Chron., Ezra, Nehemiah, the Psalms, Proverbs, Job, Daniel, Ecclesiastes, Isaiah
  2. (2) in the version of Cypriana de Valera, here in more than one hand, MS. Bodl. 366 contains Genesis, Exodus, Numbers i-xxvi, and MS. Bodl. 367 nothing

Both versions are of course Protestant, and the second is not as Valera printed his Bible in 1602, but is an earlier form (more like a paraphrase), e.g. Gen. i. 2 shows 'descompuesta, desadornada y vazia': but Valera's name, which is not in the MS., is assigned to it in the record of gift, and parts of it may be in his hand.
