George S.K. Butterworth: [Crown winter with green. Song for voice & piano]
'Crown winter with green', a Christmas song for voice and piano by George Butterworth; words by Robert Bridges. Copyist's score in ink. Unpublished. Mentioned by Sir Alexander Kaye Butterworth in the memorial volume for his son, George Butterworth, 1885-1916 (privately printed, 1918), but thought to have been lost. Apparently in the same hand as another Bridges song, Haste on, my joys, also mentioned in the memorial volume and thought to be lost until it was discovered at Cecil Sharp House in 2001. The initials 'G.S.K.B.' in red ballpoint at the head of the score are almost certainly in the hand of Ralph Vaughan Williams.
