Biographical / Historical

Strickland Gibson (1877-1958) was a librarian and bibliographer. Paget Toynbee (1855-1932) was a Dante scholar.

Custodial History

This collection was formed in October, 1913, to receive rubbings of bindings, bookstamps, etc., the existing collection of Rubbings being restricted to rubbings of brasses and other monuments capable of topographical arrangement and, for the most part, kept as rolls.

MS. Rubbings misc. b. 1-2: Presented by Mr. Strickland Gibson to the Library in 1908.

MS. Rubbings misc. d. 1: Presented to the Library by Dr. Paget Toynbee as part of his second donation of printed books, May, 1913.
