Abstract

Notes for sermons, written by the Rev. Adam Langley about 1623-1660.

Biographical / Historical

The Rev. Adam Langley (b. 1590) was a fellow of St. John's college, Oxford, rector of Radnage, 1623, and vicar of Chesham Leicester, 1624, both in Buckinghamshire.

Other Finding Aids

Falconer Madan, et al., A summary catalogue of western manuscripts in the Bodleian Library at Oxford which have not hitherto been catalogued in the Quarto series (7 vols. in 8 [vol. II in 2 parts], Oxford, 1895-1953; reprinted, with corrections in vols. I and VII, Munich, 1980), vol. V, nos. 29047-29052.

Custodial History

Owned by 'Lee Warly' in the 18th century; MS. Top. Bucks e. 5 was 'ginen mee by my sonne William Symons; 1653, Mary', but the handwriting appears to be Langley's, who signs his name on the same page.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Bought from Alfred Russell Smith (no. 577 in his catalogue) on March 15, 1872, for 18s.
