Biographical / Historical

The White family of Selborne includes Henry White (1733-1788), Rector of Fyfield and naturalist; Charles Henry White (d. 1859), second son of Henry White; Sampson White (d. 1826) eldest son of Henry White; Francis Henry White (d. 1864), fourth son of Henry White; and Sampson Henry White (d. 1871), son of Sampson White.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

The diaries were bequeathed to the Library by G.J.Dew in 1931.
