Cantata ('Scorn'd, captive, Heav'n forsaken'), music by Timothy Essex
Cantata ('Scorn'd, captive, Heav'n forsaken'), music by Timothy Essex: no doubt his Exercise for Mus. Doc., Dec. 2, 1812. The only evidence for authorship, purpose or date is 'Doctor Essex's Exercise' on the binding: his exercise for Mus. Bac. is no. 26879, and he took his Doctor's degree on Dec. 2, 1812. But the watermarks of the paper are 1794-1800, so the piece may have been composed some ten years before its performance.
